The Newest System For The Oldest University Property Tectonics was commissioned in September 2007 to undertake a quinquennial stock condition survey for Oxford Univeristy for the third time. This survey will require pt to be one of the first surveying firms in the UK to use the brand new database system, Planon, to compile a stock condition survey for the University of Oxford. The system has been designed to handle every aspect of a business’ property from room bookings to building maintenance. Phil Leach, director at pt, said: "Although we have developed our own database system, Lifespan, which we use for many of our stock condition surveys and asset management planning, we were keen to use another system chosen by our clients." "I’m delighted we’re getting the chance to use Planon as part of our work for Oxford, and I hope the feedback we are providing will help the software developers improve their system." Nigel Francis, managing director of Planon, said: "Oxford’s tender stated that the winning company would have to use Planon’s condition based survey approach and software (rather than use their own systems) so that data could be uploaded into their central Planon estates management solution." "This was not simply a fabric condition survey, there was also the requirement to collect and validate the M&E asset register for each building surveyed in addition to the survey results." "Property Tectonics’ team stepped up to the challenge and after their initial training in using the software - both PDA and desktop components - they embarked on the mammoth task of completing the surveys." The project is due to be completed in spring 2008 and Planon and pt are looking forward to working together on other projects in the future. |
