Property Tectonics Celebrates 21 years

On the 1st November 2008 Property Tectonics was 21 years old which is of course a key milestone in the company’s history. The business was set up as a partnership of Chartered Building Surveyors in November 1987 operating out of rented offices in the heart of Salford’s run down industrial heartland. Work in London and the South East led to the creation of an office in St Albans in 1989.

The company now operates from two converted historic buildings, Heywood Hall in Manchester and Holywell Hill in St Albans.

The 1987 business plan always envisaged that the company would become a multi-disciplinary consultancy as soon as possible but that it would maintain its building surveying emphasis, commitment and passion for existing buildings. In 1990 the firm and its services had expanded with architecture, structural engineering, health & safety and IT being added to the firm’s strong building surveying capability.

The practice continued to expand throughout the nineteen nineties despite the recession and in 2000 the business was incorporated as a private limited company. The main purpose of incorporation was to provide a better business model to engage pt staff in the business by encouraging share ownership and participation in the direction of the company. In 2004 an employee shareholding scheme was introduced and now every full time member of staff must become a shareholder, initially by being gifted shares, but afterwards staff can buy shares.

Founder and Managing Director Trevor Mole said "the success of the business is obviously due to a variety of factors but what stands out is that we have been fortunate to have partnered with some fantastic customers over the years who have been willing to work with us and help us to deliver excellence and customer success. We have also built a great team of people in pt who are fully committed to the business and to living its principal objectives - to delight its customers, to make money and to be good citizens."
