Ness Botanic Gardens Cares for People and Plants

Property Tectonics (pt) is due to complete the new Staff Welfare Facility and Public WC block of the Ness Botanic Gardens for The University of Liverpool. The gardens are an award winning international tourist attraction on the Wirral and is the first project delivered by pt under a new framework agreement with the University of Liverpool.

Property Tectonics provided a creative solution of designing a modular re-locatable building which, not only satisfied the client’s functional requirements for the facility but also reduced the duration and disruption to the Botanic Gardens. The staff of Ness Botanic Gardens were given a modern welfare facility inclusive of a fully fitted kitchen, heating and running hot and cold running water they had previously been without, and which complements the environment within which it is set. The existing dilapidated public WC facilities were upgraded including a complete site drainage survey. Improvements made to the main site vehicular entrance provided safer egress for staff and visitors, reducing the risk of a road traffic accident.

The challenge of this project was to minimise disruption to the operation of the Botanic Gardens as they remained open to the public throughout the duration of the works. The project had to be delivered within a very tight programme for facilities to be available for a Royal visit to the site in the near future.
