Guys & St Thomas’ Trust Property TectonicsGuy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust appointed pt to provide full design consultancy and contract administration services on the refurbishment of its hydrotherapy facilities. The project, which has revitalized the 30-year old facilities, was completed in December last year after the Guy's and St Thomas' charity awarded £100,000 to help meet the costs. As part of the works, modern changing room fittings and furniture were installed to provide greater privacy and comfort, while the floor plan has been made easier to navigate. A new reception area and waiting room and contemporary lights and new ceilings have also created a more welcoming atmosphere, while the new pool tiles have made the facilities easier to clean. Hydrotherapy rehabilitation helps patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, which make it difficult for them to exercise on land under the full influence of gravity. pt was also appointed as lead consultant on another interesting project, a £100,000 improvement contract in the nuclear medicine department, which provides scans such as bone, thyroid, renal and cardiac studies. Ian Haywood, director at pt, said: "What makes our work with Guy’s and St Thomas’ particularly interesting are the organisational complexities of working on a large London hospital and the range of specialist medical staff and contractors we are called to work with." Guy's and St Thomas' is one of the largest Trusts in the country, with 9,000 staff providing for more than 750,000 patient contacts each year. Based at sites near London Bridge and Westminster, it is made up of two of London's oldest and best-known teaching hospitals. |
