Property Tectonics (pt) together with their client Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are the proud winners of the Large-Scale Project, Yorkshire & Humberside Region, Energy Efficiency Award 2019.
The awards ceremony took place on Friday 5th of July at the Hilton in Sheffield. With 4 nominees up for this award, there was much anticipation on the evening. The project submitted for the award was the refurbishment of the Women’s and Newborn Unit for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The refit included new cladding to all faces of the five-storey building, new and better insulated windows and refurbishment of the roof. This was an incredibly sensitive project due to the nature of the services offered within the building and the requirement to maintain them throughout the duration of the construction works. This was a complex project especially given the difficulties associated with external cladding following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower. The work went ahead after detailed scrutiny from many stakeholders including NHS Improvement (the regulator) which was satisfied that the proposed design was absolutely safe and fit for purpose.
This project was approached and successfully delivered in a highly collaborative way between multiple stakeholders and suppliers of the project;
Property Tectonics – Lead Consultant
Bradford NHS Foundation Trust Estates Team
Bradford NHS Foundation Trust Medical Team
H.H. Smith & Sons Co. Ltd – Principal Contractor
Rockwool Limited – Insulation supplier
WCP Associates – Quantity Surveyors
Close liaison with medical team was also needed together with consultation with women who were due to give birth at the unit during the project.
