National Grid and Community Interest Company, Affordable Warmth Solution (AWS) launched in 2018 a £150mWarm Homes Fund (WHF) designed to support local authorities, registered social landlords and other organisations working in partnership with them, to address some of the issues affecting fuel poor households.
The fund is split into three categories; 1. First time gas central heating, 2. Rural off gas properties and 3. Energy Efficiency/Health related programs. The fund itself could be extremely valuable as in most cases it could contribute up to 33% of the capital cost of installing heating measure. This can then be topped up by ECO or other forms of funding. WHF expect that at least £50 million will be made available in the final round.
Property Tectonics (pt) recently supported a successful bid winning over £200,000 for a single project. pt’s advice to any potential applicants is to act early. It’s not just about entering a successful bid, you need to ensure that your third party suppliers and gas distribution networks are engaged at an early stage to ensure that the program of works will not be delayed or at worst completed massively under budget. December is not far away and planning a project of any scale takes time.
