State of the art sports complex for Sandringham School

We were delighted to attend the official opening ceremony of new state of art, multi million pound indoor sports complex at Sandringham School in Hertfordshire. The sports hall was officially opened by Michael Owen, former Saracens & Welsh International rugby player and The Right Worshipful Mayor of St Albans City and District. The day marked a historic day for the school, with all pupils able to gather in one auditorium for the first time in the school’s history. The sports facilities are also open to the local community.

Wehave been involved with the project from its conception providing professional services and helped acquire the initial DCSF funding for the project.

In March 2012 we were appointed by the Board of Governors to undertake outline designs of New Sports Hall, provide budget costs and outline a project timeline for submission to DCSF to obtain funding and in June funding for New Sports Hall was achieved. Following the success of achieving DCSF funding we were again appointed by the Board of Governors to provide full Architectural, Structural, M&E, CDMC and Contract Administration services for a new, purpose built Sports Hall facility to Club standard on a Metropolitan Green Belt site. Getting planning permission for Green Belt sites has its own unique set pf planning constraints. Weprepared full planning and design drawings including 3D rendering of the site and buildings. This was submitted in September for 13 week planning period including all pre consultation with Hertfordshire Highways, Sport England, Local Conservation Officer and Hertfordshire County Council education department. Meanwhile during this 13 week period we prepared full tender package including Drawings, Specification of works & CDM documentation.

In early January 2013 planning permission was granted in full and the main contractor appointed to the project. The contractor commenced work in February for a 13 month contract whilst we provided all Contract Administration, Valuation and CDMC services. Following a slight delay in build due to the heavy rain at the beginning of this year the sports hall was successfully completed in March 2014.
